Event announcements are a great way to get the word out, and generate buzz and interest about the event, your company or product. Most of us have seen some good, some bad, some just boring. Who wants to attend an event when you see a ho-hum invite or announcement?
Drinker Biddle & Reath, a PFL customer, recently printed up a very cool-looking piece that is easy to spot, recognizable and is a fun way to announce an annual football event. Football fans will gravitate towards it, and it begs to be opened. Go long…
PFL Customer Project Showcase: drink coffee, get smart.
Most of us like lists. It is interesting to read about how to do something, the top reasons the sky is blue, or tips and tricks.
When it comes to educating your customers, coffee drinkers are a good audience to provide a list to. How about sitting down and reading this…with a nice cup of coffee? Works for me, and gets people interested–whether in the list, or your product.
Check out this creative use of a list by JumpinGoat Coffee Roasters out of Georgia on a direct mail postcard. Who knew 6 MILLION metric tons of coffee is produced world-wide? Read on, and find out more…
PFL Customer Project Showcase: Meet Mr. Right…he’s portable.
How do you get people to read about your business with a direct mail piece, especially when that business is “temporary restroom solutions”? (Most of us know this as a Porta-Potty).
Since 1964, Mr. John has been recognized as an industry leader in temporary restrooms throughout NJ, Eastern PA, Northern DE, Long Island and the NY metro area. So, how do you get someone to stop and read about THAT?
You introduce them to “Mr. Right”…check out this creative and funny direct mail postcard they printed with PFL:

PFL Customer Featured Product: The Art of a Newsletter
This week our featured product is an example of an 11×17 newsletter from FACT based out of Santa Fe, NM. FACT or Fine Arts of Children and Teens, is a non-profit organization that focuses on bringing arts-learning opportunities to low income, at-risk children in the northern area of New Mexico.
Providing a newsletter on a bi-annual basis, FACT is able to keep their students, parents, staff and sponsors up to date on recent activities and upcoming events. By mixing pictures of children, staff and artwork with a variety of brightly colored backgrounds, the newsletter layout is both interesting and easy to read one section at a time. FACT is able to get their message out and keep their non-profit top of mind with this fun and informative design.

PFL Customer Project Showcase: A (true) Fishing Tale…
Derek DeYoung is passionate about two things: painting and fishing. And with this brochure from PFL, he was able to capture his love of those two things with a printed piece that not only gives people something visual to enjoy, but a true take-away to keep them interested.
The use of rich blacks, vibrant colors and the glossy, almost liquid-like appearance and feel of the UV coating really does justice to his art. Be sure to check out his work here, and see angling art in a whole new way.

These days, marketing your business involves an effective online strategy in conjunction with your printed advertising. Most businesses wouldn’t intentionally send out confusing print marketing campaigns, or pieces that play music when you open it (we’ve all seen those children’s birthday cards). In line with this – we should keep some basic concepts in mind when designing and delivering online marketing efforts, primarily the layout of a company website. After all, your website is your corporate identity through which a vast portion of users are introduced to your business.

KISS (Keep It Simple, Stupid) is really THE primary element of a successful website design. The rest is just fluff. Unnecessary complexity should be avoided as it turns out consumers don’t care much for opening up a musically animated page that fades into a puzzle that must be solved to find what they’re looking for. If this sounds like your site, rest assured that you are turning off potential customers and the revenue they could be sending your way.
Actually, your clients care far more about your location, phone number and services than an artsy experience that a designer wants to charge $5,000 to create. Most web visitors prefer a site that makes it easy to find what they’re looking for, like a restaurant’s hours of business, accurate contact information, and valuable features like the ability to purchase online gift certificates, book appointments, or gather contact information from prospects.
Unfortunately, many businesses are far too focused on flashy visual aesthetics of their web design and spend an inordinate amount of time waffling on the music, background and images on a splash page, the whole time allowing the critical importance of usability to take a back seat.
I know what you are going to say; “My business requires a visually competitive edge!” or “Our appearance is everything to our customers.” Have no fear! Your website can deliver the complete package; functional navigation and excellent modern designs that catch the visitor’s eye and draw them in for a closer look.
