The holiday season is firmly upon us, and shortly, people will be heading off to visit, hang out and enjoy some time off with friends and family. A lot of the holiday “spirit” is dressed up as the season to give, and, by nature, get. When I hear this, I usually think of gifts, what to get so-and-so, the madhouse rush to find that perfect gift, etc. But, what about where you work? What is your company’s “giving” really like? Here are a few examples of companies that give back to their employees, community or the environment. Hopefully, these examples can spark an idea for you and your company in the coming new year.
- Patagonia: Created an internship program that pays employees to work up to a month for the non-profit environmental group of their choice, ranging from sea turtle research in Kenya to bio-fuel research to land conservation throughout the American West.
- Printingforless.com: Every year, PFL works with their local, Livingston Food Pantry to collect non-perishable food items. Last year, PFL employees collected more than 1,900 items, or five palettes, of food for the Livingston Food Pantry, http://lfp.cfsites.org/.
- Keen: Primarily known for the their footwear, Keen created the Hybrid.Care initiative to give time and money to many partners, including Medicines Global, which has travelers provide basic first aid supplies to remote communities in need.
